Some cases need extra setup to finish surfaces inside holes. This example uses an overstructure with a hole that has a chamfered rest seat.
Note: Your milling strategy must include a finishing operation for holes. If your object only has drilling and not finishing drilling, use the steps below as a work-around. Also check with Level Up Support or CIMsystem for any available strategy updates.
Steps
- Identify both holes. Use 3-point detection for drilling or screw channels.
Figure 1. Overstructure with hole and chamfered rest seat.
2. Align the smaller axis to the larger axis. Move the smaller drilling axis up in Z until it lines up with the larger axis that was detected. Keep the full axis height so the Finishing Hole (Stump) does not hit excess material.
Figure 2. 3-point detection used to identify the two holes. Smaller axis raised in Z to match the larger axis.
3. Mark the top area as a Stump Margin. Select the top rim around the hole as the Stump Margin.
Figure 3. Stump Margin selected on the top area.
4. Confirm the Finishing Stump is active in your strategy. Open Strategy Editor and make sure the Finishing Stump operation is included for this indication and material.
Figure 5. Strategy shows Finishing Stump enabled.
Important check
After you mark the Stump Margin, MillBox sets an insertion direction. Click the pink arrows to review it from the machine view and confirm it aligns with the screw channel.
Figure 6. Pink arrows show the insertion direction created by the margin.
If the angle needs correction, go to Tools > Curves and Surfaces > Change Cavity Axis. Align your camera, then choose Set from View.

Tip: If finishing still misses the chamfer, raise the smaller axis slightly and re-run the simulation to verify clearance.
Quick checklist
- Two holes identified with 3-point detection

- Smaller axis raised in Z to match the larger axis

- Top rim set as Stump Margin

- Finishing Stump present in Strategy Editor

- Insertion direction verified with pink arrows

- Axis corrected using Change Cavity Axis if needed
